Booking a Theory Test

Booking Online

The theory test can be booked once you have your provisional or other valid licence. This can be done is several ways. The easiest way to book your Theory Test is via the online booking service provided by the DVSA. You will need your UK driving licence and a valid debit or credit card for payment. The test costs £31 to take.

Booking by Phone

If you don't want to book online you can book your test via the phone on 0300 200 1122 between 8AM and 6PM. You will speak to an operator and they will ask for your information and book your theory test for you. You need to make sure that you have your provisional at hand as well as a valid debit or credit card.

Booking by Post

You can also make bookings by the post. However to do so you will need an fill in an application form. These are available online or by request from the DVSA booking line. You will need to enclose payment for the amount due in the form a cheque or postal order. You cannot pay for your Theory Test with cash payments.

Cancelling or rearranging a lesson

If you have booked a test and would like to rearrange or cancel it you can do so over the phone or you can do so online using the Management options. You will need to provide 3 working days notice to the DVSA or you will not receive a refund. If you have provided sufficient notice the DVSA will reschedule your test or cancel it completely and refund you at no extra cost.

To take the test you will need to attend your local test centre. Try to be there at least 10 minutes before your test is scheduled and allow for any delays that may occur during your travel. Click here to find your nearest Theory Test Centre.
